Sneak peek at Spring Classics Preview Day

Flemington’s inaugural Spring Classic midweek meeting jumps out tomorrow, Wednesday 27 November, for an exciting day of quality racing. This raceday will see the future stars of the AAMI Victoria Derby and the Kennedy Oaks take their place in the AAMI Victoria Derby and Kennedy Oaks Trials respectively.

With the course proper looking incredible in preparation for the highly anticipated debut of Winx for the upcoming Seppelt Turnbull Stakes Day on Saturday 7 October, racegoers will have the opportunity to experience the signature Flemington hospitality whilst watching some seriously talented horses in a midweek racing spectacular.

This brand new raceday has been added to the Spring Racing program to provide a stepping-stone for Flemington’s classic staying tests of the spring, and will give racegoers a chance to get a glimpse of the up and coming key players of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The day’s highlights include current Kennedy Oaks favourite and winner of the Byerley Handicap Anchor Bid in Race 6, the Kennedy Oaks Trial (1800m) at 3.55pm, along with the well performed Think Diamonds and Princess Titanic.

Victoria Racing Club’s new classic trials have proven a popular addition to the race program for three-year-olds. The final field for the AAMI Victoria Derby Trial (1800m) at 4.30pm includes recent Flemington winner Sheer Madness, impressive maiden winner Tavistock Abbey and Kiwi gelding Weather With You.

The undercard is highlighted by Black Caviar’s daughter Oscietra in the Have You RSVP’d Handicap (1000m) at 2.45pm, who comes off a last-start victory. Adelaide’s premier jockey Jaime Kah will also make the trip to Flemington to partner Silvera in Race 1 The Star of the Realm Handicap (1630m) at 1.00pm and Sweet Mischief in the Kennedy Oaks Trial.

Two Living Legends – Group 1 Doomben 10,000 two-time winner Chief De Beers and Group 3 Standish Handicap winner Super Impressive – will feature in the Parade Ring and Mounting Yard. These two aren’t just known for their success on the track, they also served in the Mounted Police for many years after their retirement from racing.

To make Spring Classics Preview Day even better, General Admission will be free for all racegoers and VRC Members can receive four complimentary Daily Members’ Enclosure Guest Passes.

Gates will open at 12pm, with Public Parking available at Flemington Racecourse.
