Food, fashion and fun will be the order of the day when the 2017 Melbourne Cup Carnival launches on Monday 30 October in The Park, Flemington’s fabulous and glamorous precinct.
Australia’s premier racing destination will host VIPs and media for a preview of the renowned 10,000 square metre precinct known as The Park, a free destination for racegoers that combines the excitement of world-class racing with an energetic mix of fun, interactive offerings and satiating delights.
With proceedings to be hosted by Channel 7’s Jason Richardson and Myer Ambassador and Channel 7’s Rachael Finch, the morning will introduce guests to key racing identities, fashion experts and the finest food offerings over the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Before the Victorian Minister for Racing, the Hon. Martin Pakula officially declares the 2017 Melbourne Cup Carnival open, guests will be treated to insights by racing identities including 2013 Emirates Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Gai Waterhouse and Channel 7 racing presenter Francesca Cumani, while Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassadors Rebecca Harding and Dalton Graham will talk guests through key on-trend styling tips for each of the four major race days.
Racing talent will be well represented with appearances by 2014 Emirates Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Andreas Wöhler, 2017 Caulfield Cup-winning jockey Cory Parish, and Aaron Purcell – a trainer with a host of Group 1 chances during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Racegoers can enjoy some interactive fun with Bar Schweppes and the Flemingo Croquet Lawn, hang out with Nova in The Park, experience some virtual reality racing at Tabcorp, or get glammed up at the COSMOPOLITAN Glam Pit before hitting the Myer Fashions on the Field enclosure for some fabulous fashions.
Foodies will enjoy a sample of fine fare from 400 Gradi, 8bit, Dexter, Hector’s Deli, Rice Paper Scissors and Zero Gradi, with thirst quenching activations from Lavazza, James Squire, James Boag, Absolut, A’Tivo, Schweppes, Wolf Blass, and The Pony Bar.
Melbourne Cup Carnival racing highlights include the AAMI Victoria Derby, Emirates Melbourne Cup, Kennedy Oaks and Emirates Stakes. The feature races will be supported by a great lineup of Australian music talent including DMA’S, Tkay Maidza, Hot Dub Time Machine, San Cisco, The Preatures, Bag Raiders in DJ mode and Sheppard.
As well as music, racegoers can revel in the finest of fashions with the Myer Fashions on the Field competitions incorporating two days of Men’s competition, three days of Women’s competition, the Designer award and the Millinery award, as well as the Emirates Stakes Day Fashions on the Field competition all cumulating in a massive prize pool valued at more than $340,000.
The Melbourne Cup Carnival begins on Saturday 4 November with AAMI Victoria Derby Day, and continues with Emirates Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 7 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 9 November and concludes with Emirates Stakes Day on Saturday 11 November.
The 2016 Melbourne Cup Carnival injected $427.1 million into the Victorian economy, and is broadcast into 163 territories worldwide. More than $19.1 million in prize money will be won by connections, with $6.25 million on offer in the Emirates Melbourne Cup, the world’s richest handicap.
